Retroperitoneal Fibrosis, also known as Ormond's Disease, is a rare inflammatory disorder that affects the retroperitoneum, which is the space behind the abdominal cavity. This condition can cause the narrowing or blockage of the ureters, the tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder, leading to problems with kidney function. In medical literature, Retroperitoneal Fibrosis may also be referred to as Chronic Periaortitis or Perirenal Fibrosis. While these terms are synonyms for the condition, they may indicate different locations of the fibrotic tissue in the retroperitoneal space. Other synonyms for Retroperitoneal Fibrosis include Retroperitoneal Fibroplasia, Retroperitoneal Fibrous Tissue, and Fibrous Retroperitonitis. Treatment for Retroperitoneal Fibrosis usually involves a combination of drugs and surgery to relieve the blockage and improve kidney function.
