The New Siberian Islands are one of the northernmost regions of Russia, and are located in the Arctic Ocean. These islands are also known by a few other names, such as the Novosibirsk Islands, the Novosibirsk Archipelago, and the Neusibirischen Inseln (in German). In addition, the islands were historically known as the Kolyma Archipelago, after the nearby Kolyma River. The New Siberian Islands are comprised of five main islands - Kotelny, Faddeyevsky, New Siberia, Novaya Sibir, and Belkovsky - as well as numerous small islets. The islands are a unique and remote destination, with a rich history of exploration and scientific research.
