French colonial livre was a unit of currency used in the French colonies during the 19th and 20th centuries. It was also known by several other names, such as the franc, piastre, and livre tournois. In French Indochina, it was referred to as "l'Indochinois" or "the Indochinese franc." In Algeria, it was called the "algerien" or "Algerian franc." In West Africa, it was known as the "Afrique Équatoriale Française franc" or "AOF franc." The currency was eventually replaced by the French franc in the 1950s and 1960s as the colonies gained independence.
