Bartholin's gland, located on either side of the vaginal opening, is an important part of the female reproductive system. It secretes mucus to lubricate the vaginal area during sexual intercourse. It is also known as the greater vestibular gland, as well as the lesser vestibular gland or Bartholin's duct gland. In medical literature, it is additionally referred to as glandula vestibularis major and glandula bulbourethralis feminina. In common colloquialism, it is also called the female prostate, though this term is not entirely accurate. Regardless of what it is called, keeping the Bartholin's gland healthy is essential to ensure proper sexual health in women.
